The Butler Institute of American Art presents the exhibition, My United States of America, by Mateo Blanco, from Sunday, September 29 through Sunday, December 1, at the Butler, on Wick Avenue in Youngstown. My United States of America depicts multiple versions of the United States flag, showing that no matter what size, shape, or color, the flag is always recognizable. The Mahoning Valley Historical Society presents its 16th-Annual Memories of Christmas Past Exhibit, at Arms Family Museum, on Wick Avenue, in Youngstown, from November 16 to December 31, Noon - 4 pm, everyday except Mondays and national holidays. The Youngstown playhouse presents the show, The Thanksgiving Play, weekends Friday, November 15 through Sunday, November 24, with evening performances at 7:30 pm, and the Sunday matinee at 2:30 pm. The Canton Symphony Orchestra, continuing its MasterWorks concert series on Saturday, November 23rd at 7:30PM in Umstattd Hall, with a program titled "The 100th Anniversary of Rhapsody in Blue." Pianist Baron Fenwick joins the Symphony for a performance of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. The Illuminare Choral Ensemble presents I Was Glad, a concert of awe-inspiring sacred choral music, on Sunday, November 24, at 4:30 pm, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Allison Park, PA. Music director Jon Simsic leads this ensemble that is composed of singers drawn from the greater Youngstown area. The a cappella program will feature chant as well as compositions by Orlando De Lassus, Thomas Tallis, Anton Bruckner, and others.
